Remarkable accomplishment

Milestone wins are really neat, and we've had our fair share of them during the 2007-08 school year.

There was Grace Hutchinson of Norwalk in volleyball (500), Joe Groscost of Margaretta in swimming (600, i think) and Mike Smith of St. Paul and Greg Nossaman of Willard (250 each).

Now in the spring, Bellevue softball coach Walt Snyder got No. 400, Glen Morse notched No. 300 in baseball at New London and Marc Marshall earned No. 300 as the Clyde softball coach.

Browns draft

I have to admit, I've never heard of any of the guys the Browns drafted today, and I'm betting most of you haven't either.

Having said that, it's not really that unusual. It's hard to keep up with late-round draft picks, unless you're dedicated to it like Mel Kiper.

So, I figured I would use a little help from my friends at the Associated Press and give you a little bit of information about all five guys the Browns picked up today. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

Real Cavs about to stand up

After plodding along in the final month of the regular season, the Cavaliers have come alive in the playoffs.

OSU spring game 2

Any thoughts on Saturday's Scarlet-Gray game?

I thought the game was more entertaining than last year.

Last year, there were still a lot of question marks with this season. Saturday, I saw a more experienced, focused team.

"We knew were that close (last year),'' quarterback Todd Boeckman said. "We know we can't make some of those mistakes.''

I was impressed with quarterback Joe Bauserman and right tackle Bryant Browning.

I thought Etienne Sabino, who enrolled at OSU early, played well. He had five tackles for the Gray team, including one tackle for loss.

OSU spring game

How many of you are planning on attending OSU's spring game Saturday? Does anybody care about OSU's spring game Saturday?

I've been to a couple of them. It's a nice practice session and the chance to see football again for those that really miss it, players we've seen before and potential prospects for next year.

I went to in the late 1990s I found the game not so good, but last season it wasn't too bad. Maybe my age is catching up with me.

Who's heading down to Columbus Saturday?

What's wrong with some of you people?

i received an alert about an obscene post the other day, which led to the deletion of a bunch of personal attack posts. It also left me wondering if some of you think it's funny to be hurtful and obscene, or you just get really brave when you don't have to attach your names to the posts.

in either case, it's not fun and is hurtful and unnecessary.

i was bumping around on the canton repository website and found these ground rules for posting, which i think makes a lot of sense so i want to nicely ask all of you to follow:

1. Keep it clean.
2. Stay on topic.

LeBron for MVP, part II

A few weeks ago, I left an entry about the NBA MVP chase.

At the time, I figured LeBron probably deserved it but Kobe Bryant would get it. Kobe still seems like a legitimate candidate, particularly with the way the race in the west is being played out.

I still can't image where the Cavs would be without LeBron — probably in some other city like Oklahoma City. But I also kind of think LeBron has fallen off the MVP chase with the inconsistent play of the team.

OSU basketball

With Ohio State's National Invitational Tournament championship, does that mean the Buckeyes are unquestionably the 66th best team in the nation?

All kidding aside, the Buckeyes did do a good job of rebounding to win the title after not making the NCAA Tournament. In all fairness, OSU could have gotten in the NCAA tournaemnt with wins over Iowa, Michigan and especially Michigan State in the Big Ten tournament.

Baby, it's cold outside...

What's the shortest time you have stayed at a professional sporting event?

My personal record was set Wednesday night as I made it through three innings of the Indians' second game with Chicago. There's something about metal bleachers and 30 degree temperatures that just don't mix. Perhaps a seat cushion would have been a smart addition to my coat, hat and gloves. I may be able to find a Fandy.com version around here somewhere.

I have 'Nova and Western Kentucky in my Final Four...

OK, alright, I don't have them in there, but do you?

And how about West Virginia, I would guess that <10% picked that one in their brackets. And most of them were from West Virginia.

I can say that my bracket is officially DONE, as in over with. I picked my teams in about three minutes and when it was all said and done, I had North Carolina, Texas, UCLA and Clemson in my Final Four. I know, I know, Clemson?? Whaddya gonna do? I may still have a shot, but 9 out of Sweet 16 teams left doesn't sound too promising.

At least I only filled out one bracket this year.
