Post 83 came through with an impressive 5-0 win over Fremont Tuesday night at Tiffin University’s Heminger Field.

Kyle Fluharty (Willard/Heidleberg) threw a one-hitter to earn his sixth win of the season.

He walked a batter in the fifth inning to lose a perfect game, while he took a no-hitter two outs into the seventh inning until Fremont’s Tiger Jaso (Lakota) singled just inside the left field line.

Fluharty walked two and struck out 10 in seven innings of work.

“Kyle continues to be our ace and he definitely showed it today,” Post 83 coach Bobby Palsa said. “One hit, two walks, and no runs is absolutely phenomenal. After we got a few runs in, he gave us the confidence that he was going to shut them down.”

Post 83 (31-10) is now in the district final of the winners bracket.

If they win, they will face the winner of the losers bracket.

Friday’s game against an opponent to be determined is at 5:30 p.m. at Heidelberg University.

“We are definitely excited about the win,” Palsa said. “This is absolutely the way we wanted to start the district tournament, with a win. Fortunately we had the bye, so with the win we are now in the winners bracket championship.”

Mason McWilliams (Seneca East) picked up his third save of the season with two innings of work.

McWilliams gave up no hits, walks, or runs and struck out four.

“Mason came in for the eighth and did exactly what we needed him to do,” Palsa said. “He did great. I couldn't ask for anything more from those two guys.”

Post 83 got on board in the bottom of the third inning.

Alex Manner (Bellevue) walked to start the lineup before Devin Dubbert (Perkins) struck out. Seth Bryant (Perkins) singled, as did Fluharty, scoring Manner.

Quinten Harrington (Perkins) walked and Alex Walts (Amherst) singled to score Bryant.

Post 83 then scored a run in the fifth, sixth and eighth inning.

Dubbert finished the night 2-of-5 with a run scored.

Bryant added 2-of-5 with two runs scored.

Fluharty contributed two hits with an RBI and Walts and Trey Gluth both contributed a hit and RBI.
