Norwalk wins Division II state championship

The Norwalk Truckers (29-1) defeated Columbus Bishop Watterson 65-58 on Saturday to win the Division II state championship.

Norwalk was led by senior Ben Haraway, who scored 29 points. Classmate Jeff Thomas added 18 points in the victory.

Norwalk jumped out to a 20-14 lead after one quarter and upped that to 31-19 at the half.

The Truckers held a 42-33 advantage at the end of three quarters and were able to hold on for the 65-58 win.

Watterson finished its season at 26-3. The Eagles were the defending Division II state champions.

Good news for Norwalk. Congratulations to all of the guys on the Norwalk Basketball team. History was made today. Just awesome.


What an impressive tournament run. The team made history but acted like they'd been there before. They were focused, composed and playing for each other. It speaks so well for their character and their coaches. There was no showing off or losing composure, just discipline and good sportsmanship as they played great basketball. The whole town is so proud of you for showing you are champions in every way.
