FC roundup: Three teams tied for first

The St. Paul Flyers ground out a 30-14 win over the Plymouth Big Red on Friday night in Firelands Conference action at Mary Fate Park.

The Flyers were paced by the dual running attack of senior Michael Griffin and sophomore Devin Smith.

Griffin carried the ball 25 times for 173 yards and a touchdown, while Smith added 167 yards on 22 carries and a TD.

The Flyers improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the FC, while Plymouth fell to 4-4 and 3-2.

New London 7, Western Reserve 6
New London made the FC race intersting with an FC win.

The Wildcats join St. Paul and Western atop the league standings at 4-1 FC marks with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.

After a scoreless first quarter, New London (5-3 overall) got on the board at 9:10 of the second period as senior Josh Dillard lined up in his quarterback position in the Wildcat formation and sprinted 8 yards for the score.

New London quarterback Josh Hamilton completed 8-of-14 passes for 94 yards.

Nick Thomas gained 55 yards on nine carries.

Theron Martz was the workhorse for Western, running for 151 yards on 28 carries.

Monroeville 40, South Central 6
The Monroeville Eagles had four runners score touchdowns to beat the South Central Trojans at Marsh Field.

With the victory, Monroeville is 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the Firelands Conference.

South Central falls to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Caleb Barnett rushed 21 times for 75 yards and one TD.

Running the ball was the name of the game for the Eagles.

Rick Heck was the leading rusher with 151 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns.
