FC: Western clinches at least a share of FC crown

Western Reserve clinched no worse than a share of the Firelands Conference title, as the Roughriders toppled Mapleton 49-14 in Firelands Conference play Friday night.

The ’Riders (8-2, 6-1) own a half game lead over St. Paul, with the Flyers slated to play at Monroeville today.

Western, which won the FC crown outright in 2010, was also seventh in the Division 5, Region 18 rankings heading into the weekend.

Western jumped out to a 14-6 first quarter lead behind the strong play of Will Pritt.

The junior quarterback scored on a 1-yard run at the 7:14 mark and then made connections with Willie Roth on an 80-yard pass and catch with 4:31 showing. Theron Martz ran in the extra points.

Western amassed 456 yards of total offense, including 332  on the ground and 124 through the air.

Martz ran for 132 yards on 13 carries.
