Bellevue 28, Perkins 27
With 30 seconds left on the game clock, Perkins had the Division III Region 10 semifinal vs. Bellevue all wrapped up and a chance at a regional championship appearance.
But the Pirates saw their postseason run come to a devastating end in those 30 seconds when they opted to pass on fourth-and-five at the Bellevue 31, which resulted in an interception that was picked off by Nick Raifsnider. He returned it to the Perkins 42.
It was Jalen Santoro’s chance to be the hero, and he took full advantage, throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Trent Stamm as time expired. Jake Strayer nailed the extra point kick and Bellevue (11-1) walked away with a 28-27 victory and another week of football ahead of them.
The Redmen take on Napoleon (11-0-1) at a neutral site next Saturday, while the Pirates end the season at 10-2. Both losses came to the Redmen.
Santoro described the final play with one word: unbelievable.

Just Saying

Why would Perkins take a risk and pass the ball with 20 seconds remaining? Makes more sense that you would make sure your QB NEVER had it out of his hands for the last 20 seconds. Too Bad. Dumb Coaching decision.

*Hee hee hee* and, 30 seconds. Not 20. Eyes on the chalkboard instead of hands on the ball.
