Scott Stecher is the new head football coach at Monroeville.

The school board made it official at Thursday’s meeting, unanimously hiring the  Marblehead resident.

Stecher will take over for former coach Dan Periat, who resigned following the 2013 season after four years at the helm.

Stecher is the president of the Reef Runner Tackle Co. in Marblehead.

He served as offensive coordinator last season at Fremont St. Joseph, responsible for weekly game plans, game play-calling and film evaluation.

Prior to that, Stecher was offensive coordinator at Lakota High School in 2012 and an assistant coach at Genoa High School from 2009 to 2011.

Stecher has also assisted at the junior high and high school level at Danbury High School and and served as junior varsity head coach at Plymouth High School.

He’s a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and Heidelberg College.

Stecher described some of his attributes on his resume.

He wasn’t in attendance at Thursday’s meeting.

Stecher referred to himself as a “highly-motivated, positive, hard-working role model with leadership skills, not only for the student-athlete, but co-workers as well.”

His other strengths include being well-versed in all phases of coaching, including teaching, coordinating, organizational skills, positive reinforcement, fundraising, media events and athletic training, according to his biography.

Monroeville finished 1-9 overall, 1-6 in the Firelands Conference in 2013.

Stecher has high school and college athletic experience including football, basketball and baseball.

He also has 10 years’ experience coaching community baseball, soccer and girls’ softball.

He’s involved in multiple church activities, including council member, congregational president, men’s group and choir.

Stecher also has competitive fishing tournament experience.

He and his wife Betsy have been married 28 years and have two college-age children.

Does this mean that since he came from a Catholic Program we are allowed to recruit now?

When did Monroeville need to recruit??? A great coach (Ringholz) wins...maybe his replacement wasn't a good coach.

It was just a little humor directed at those who do need to recruit. You know who you are.
