South Central remains tied for first in FC with win over Western

South Central had a big first quarter and claimed a 74-38 win over Western Reserve in Firelands Conference girls’ basketball action Thursday.

The Lady Trojans improved to 10-1 overall and 7-1 in the league.

The Lady ’Riders dropped to 1-9 and 1-7.

South Central jumped out to a 26-5 first-quarter lead and extended that margin to 47-12 by halftime.

They had a 64-26 lead after the third quarter and the eventual final margin.

Anna Hintz and Summer Sweeting provided a solid 1-2 punch for South Central.

Hintz led the way with 25 points, which included 10 field goals and 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.

Sweeting tossed in 22 points.

She hit eight field goals, including three threes and converted 3-of-3 from the charity stripe.

Alli Hintz chipped in with eight points, including two triples.

Anna Hintz also recorded nine rebounds, seven assists, three blocked shots and six steals.

Mia Ward paced Western with 13 points, including a three.

Tara Burke contributed six points.

South Central is slated to play at St. Paul Thursday.

Western is at Edison Tuesday in non-league action.
