So when she flatly stated the goal for her and the Perkins girls’ golf team was to win state championships — team and individual — the statement was made matter of factly.

And, after the first day of the 36-hole Division II tournament in Columbus, the Pirates are in good shape to capture their initial state title, and Mullins is the leader overall following a two-over-par 72 on the Ohio State University’s par 70 Gray course.

Perkins is striving for a first in the five-year history of the event that was moved to a second division based on enrollment in 2008.

Edison, another SBC state entry after a third-place finish in the Northwest District tournament, is 10th with a 383 count.

For the Chargers, junior Hannah Stone carded 47-47—94.

Jessica Lardie of Vermilion qualified for the Northeast District where she posted an 82 for co-medalist honors at Tam O’Shanter in Canton. She had trouble with putting in shooting a 90 (42-48).

There was one participant in the Division II boys tournament, Bellevue sophomore Dylan DeWitt who qualified as an individual.

He posted a score of 45-50 (played the back nine first).
