The Perkins girls’ golf team talked about winning a coveted state title early in the week and followed up by walking up to the podium Saturday to receive the Division II championship trophy.
The Pirates became the first school in the five-year history of the Division II tournament to sweep the major awards — team trophy and individual medalist award — and also the first area girls team to claim a state golf crown.
Maddy Mullins also became the second golfer in Perkins school history to earn an individual championship, and first-team all-Ohio honors. The late Alan Schlessman won Division II boys individual laurels in 2000.
Mullins captured the medalist award with a 36-hole total of 149 over the Ohio State University’s Gray Course that played to par of 70, two shots ahead of Sarah Kolodzik of Dayton Miami Valley.
Summer Seitz added an 88-80-168.
Edison also competed at the state tournament and ended up 10th with a two-day score of 757.
Junior Hannah Stone led the Lady Chargers wtih 94-93-187.
