Beaumont 3, Norwalk 2
It was a familiar position, if not almost expected in some ways.
Tied at 6-6 in winner-take-all Game 5 of the Division II state championship vs. Cleveland Heights Beaumont, Norwalk was in a position it has often seen during the tournament trail the past three years.
And although Game 5 featured six ties and three lead changes, it was Beaumont scoring nine of the last 11 points to win the state championship at Wright State University's Nutter Center Saturday afternoon, 25-18, 18-25, 25-15, 16-25, 15-8.
The No. 17 Blue Streaks finish the year 22-7, while No. 4 Norwalk ended the season 27-3.
Norwalk had lost in five games to Mansfield Madison at the district level in each of the past two seasons, and last week beat No. 1-ranked Padua in five games in a regional championship match.
