Bowlers at Riverview Lanes continue to rack up United States Bowling Congress (USBC) award-winning scores.

• Steve Schlette, 47, clicked off his second 800 series of the 2013-14 season, and fourth in two years Dec. 23 with an 815 total on games of 278-258-279.

• Cody Baker, 24, fired his second 300 game of his short career Monday in the Lake Shore League with an opening perfect game followed by 237 and 195 for a 732 series.

• Then came Steve Schoewe, 26, with his 12th 300 game Thursday in the Classic Trio League, also in the first game. That was followed by 237 and 215 for a 752 mark.

Schlette, who grew up in Huron, left for the military and returned to the community in 2001, rolled an 839 series earlier in the season. In the 2012-13 season, Schlette exploded for a career high 854 to go with an 804.

“I've been bowling pretty good this year with a 236 average on Thursdays, 226 Mondays, and 228 on Tuesdays” Schlette said. “I'm just having some fun and its always nice to get that 800 because you have to be consistent”

Baker's first 300 was posted Jan. 21, 2013, and this time around he reached perfection on Jan. 13, 2014.

"I'm still looking for that 800, and I really thought I was going to get the first one Monday when the lanes broke down and we had to move to another set” Baker said. “I was on 7-8 and started the night with the first 18 until I ran into a split in the seventh frame of the middle game and finished with 237. In the last game, I had the front four when the lanes shut down and that set didn't work for me. I had one strike in the last six frames. I was upset about moving but there was nothing I could do”

His all-time series remains at 770.

“I shot 757 a week ago and felt maybe my time was coming for another 300 and sure enough, it was there” the 2008 Huron grad added. “It was also the first time I bowled with a ball I got from Chuck Ingram. I was going to test it out and its a keeper for me”

Schoewe talked about his perfect game.

“I just relaxed all the way through the first game, just trying to help my team win and over and over I'd get a strike” he said. “I still felt I would somehow leave a corner (7 or 10) pin, but all 12 were in the pocket”

Schoewe carries averages of 223 and 224 this year, up slightly from the past season.

Not Miller time
Bruce Miller has fashioned 11 strikes in one game on 23 occasions but has just 11 300 games to show for that.

However, never did he think about shooting a 295 game after getting the first 11 strikes.

It happened recently to the Sandusky USBC manager.

“I left the ‘Greek Church’ which was the 4-6-7-8-10 on the 12th ball. I just hit the nose and that was the result. Oddly enough, I had a hit similar to that on the 11th ball, but all 10 went down” Miller said.

Jaeckin has 298 at Dynasty
Dennis Jaeckin, 65, of Willard, bowled a 298 game Wednesday (Jan.14) at Dynasty Lanes in Willard.

He was “robbed” of a 300 game when the 8-10 split stood on his 12th ball. He added scores of 164 and 170 for a 632 series.

Jaeckin does have three perfect games to his credit, the last coming at Lex Lanes in Lexington in 1999.
