A 4-1 win Tuesday made Perkins the newest team to finish 12-0 and undefeated in its Sandusky Bay Conference games.

That's usually the case for the most recent league champions, with St. Mary CC last year, and Port Clinton in several seasons before that all finishing unbeaten.

Perkins last won a league tennis title in the 2000 season.

“Our goal was to win the SBC,” Perkins coach Joe Taylor Jr. said Saturday at the conference tournament. “It takes a team effort from top to bottom, and they rose to the occasion and came through.”

The league title is the 17th for Perkins, who won an SBC record 10 straight titles from 1983-92.

“The last time we won it, my dad was coaching and I was an assistant,” Taylor said. “I guess I’m trying to follow in his footsteps. I think this was a step toward that. But I don’t think I’ll catch him.”
