GOLF ROUNDUP: St. Mary CC boys sweep SBC quad

OXFORD TWP. — The St. Mary Central Catholic boys golfers improved to 4-0 in the Sandusky Bay Conference after sweeping a conference quad Thursday on the front nine of Woussickett Golf Course.

The host Panthers went 3-0 against Perkins, Edison and Oak Harbor. The three visiting schools did not
compete against each other.

Evan Slattery led SMCC (4-0) with 40, followed by Jared Ebert with 42, Kyle Glovinsky with 45 and Connor Stark with 47.

Slattery started with a double bogey and ended with a triple bogey, but shot well in between, said coach Matt Keech.

“The headline could say, ‘Panthers win ugly,’ but a win’s a win,” he said.

The Panthers defeated the Pirates, 174-177. Nate Foss medaled for Perkins with 38. Tyler Brownell at 43, while Grant White added 44 and Mason Gerold 50.

SMCC edged Edison, 174-176, led by Alex Bixler with 40. Ryan Reber shot 43, Zack Pittenger shot 45 and Ben Spacek rounded out scoring for the Chargers with 48. 

SMCC defeated Oak Harbor, 174-202, led by Matt Shiffert with 45. Jeremiah Helle shot 47, while Tom Witt and Kyle Hayes each added scores of 55.

The SBC tournament is Tuesday at Maumee Bay.

Clyde splits SBC tri-match

The Fliers split with Port Clinton and Huron Thursday at on the front nine of Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde.

Port Clinton defeated Clyde, 162-166.

Alex Viery led the Redskins with 38, tying the Fliers’ Isaac Delgarbino and Joey Cooper for the medal.

Port Clinton’s Kevin Hiller followed Viery with 40, followed by Jason Mueller and Donovan Guerra with 42 apiece.

“162 is a really good score for us, particularly on what I think is a tough front 9 at Green Hills,” Port Clinton coach Rick Dominick said. “We did a nice job of putting together four scores.”

Nick Hill shot 44 for Clyde (2-1 SBC) and Garret Rupert rounded out scoring for the Fliers with 46.

The Fliers beat the Tigers, 166-189. Keegan Bollenbacher led the Tigers (0-2 SBC) with 42, while Jack Springer shot 47 and Matt Wray and Cody Brownell added 50 apiece. 

GIRLS GOLF Perkins 175, Oak Harbor 228

 

After three 18-hole tournaments in as many days, the Perkins girls golf team opened its SBC season with a 175-228 victory over Oak Harbor on its home course Thursday, Thunderbird Hills South.

“We were tired today after three straight days of tournament play but I’m happy with the results, especially senior Morgan Bruner who scored a 49,” said Perkins coach Alice James.

Also for the Pirates, Amanda Hartnett carded 40, Maddy Mullins 42 and Maddie Torres 44.

For Oak Harbor, Kara Witt was low at 51, followed by Emily Tice with 55, Sarah Boldt 57 and Dez Schmiehausen 65.

Perkins is in the Shelby tournament Monday.

Margaretta girls beat Danbury

The Margaretta girls defeated Danbury, 204-224, in a dual at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Clyde. 

Katie Muratore medaled for the Polar Bears with 44. Rian Spicer, Tatum Tucker and Grace Sessler came in with 52, 53 and 55, respectively.

“The girls struggled with the course they played yesterday (in the Edison Invitational), then went back to their home course,” Margaretta coach Ryan Spicer said.

K.C. Oxendale paced the Lakers with 53, followed by Tori England with 55, Mariah Frantz with 56 and Morgan Scott with 60.

Margaretta (1-1) returns to action Wednesday at Oak Harbor.
