SMCC senior Andrew Linden won two matches Wednesday on the first day of the Division II district tournament at Bowling Green.
Linden, who is 32-0 this year, faces Lexington freshman Mason Dragos at 10 a.m. Saturday. The winner advances to the finals and claims one of the district’s two berths in the state singles tournament.
A state qualifer a year ago, Linden had a 6-0, 6-1 win to start the day against Wauseon’s Logan Blue, then posted a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Shawnee’s Zach Diltz to set up his match with Dragos.
The rest of the Division II field didn't fare quite as well:
... Perkins sophomore Manickam Manickam started with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Tory Savage, Bryan, then lost to Lexington’s Jake Youse, 6-1, 6-1.
... Jamal Hamad and Gabe Murray dropped a second-round match to Archbold’s Kevin Frederick and Nick Cassidy, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Hamad and Murray had a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win over Celina’s Isaac Elton and Kris LeJune in the first round.
... St. Mary CC’s Alex Opfer and Tanner Roth won, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 6-4, over St. Marys Memorial Troy Newlove and Cole Brooks.They lost in the second round to Maumee Valley Country Day’s Grant McPherson and Stephen Shin, 6-0, 6-1.
... Huron’s Matt Wray and John Dusza beat Shawnee’s Derek Smith and Jason Barton, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1 before Lexington’s Matt Youse and Jon McCarther beat them, 6-1, 6-0.
