Rumor has it this morning that the Browns are in the midst of a trade that will send Willard native Charlie Frye packing.
I have not been able to confirm the rumor, though I suspect it is legitimate. The team plans to bring back quarterback Ken Dorsey, a mentor for first-round pick Brady Quinn, today, so a roster move must be made. If a suitor cannot be found, Frye might be cut. Or, if Cleveland wants to buy more time, they might cut fill-in punter Paul Ernster, since regular punter Dave Zastudil said Monday he thinks he will be ready to go this Sunday.
Frye looked lost at quarterback Sunday in the 34-7 loss to Pittsburgh, something that should not occur in a third-year player. One possible destination is Atlanta, which would be a good change of scenery for Frye. The Falcons’ offensive line is built for a mobile QB, and with Michael Vick out of the picture, they need one. Although Frye will probably be sad to leave his hometown team, any team at this point is better than the Browns. Cleveland is in for a long season.
