Danbury announced Monday it has canceled its Friday game at North Baltimore.

Danbury began the season with 16 players on the roster, but the Lakers won't have that number available for Friday since two players are out of the lineup with head injuries.

Athletic director Drew Davie told the Findlay Courier two players experienced concussion-like symptoms during a 42-20 loss Friday at Upper Scioto Valley.

A North Baltitmore school official confirmed the cancelation of the game, and told the Register the players were out because of a concussion.

"We plan to play every game, but when you do the math we can't guarantee we'll play every week. We told the schools on our schedule we might not be able to play every week. It all depends on our numbers situation," Davie said.

The Lakers are scheduled to play Fostoria St. Wendelin in their home opener in Week 3.

North Baltimore and Danbury have played each other for more than 50 years, but the series will not be renewed for the 2011 season. North Baltimore beat Danbury 64-0 a year ago.

I feel sorry for those kids who worked hard to get ready for their season and are now told they do not have enough to play. Isn't this something that should of been known well before the season started by the coaches and administrators? If you had the ability to contact all the teams on your schedule to warn them that you might not have enough kids to play that week on the schedule- then perhaps you could of prevented this all together by not playing this football season in the first place. If you thought you did not have enough kids to play out EVERY GAME of the season, then maybe theschool should have cancelled the season to begin with - saving the school, the township, and most importanty the kids from this embarrasment and frustration.
