Another slow start and big finish highlighted Day 1 action at the Sandusky ‘Nubbs’ Shootout for the Post 83 American Legion baseball team.
A five-error performance against Whitehouse led to a 9-7 loss for Post 83 in the first game of its host tournament, while the team pulled out a 9-5 win in eight innings over Strongsville to cap the day.
In the loss to Whitehouse, Trey Gluth (Port Clinton) had two hits, including a double and two RBIs.
Logan Shullick (Norwalk 2011) added two singles.
Evan Bader (Norwalk), making his Post 83 debut, took the loss on the mound.
Against Strongsville, Post 83 trailed 4-0 entering the fourth inning, but shook off a funk with a four-run inning to tie the game.
Shullick hit a key two-run home run.
Shullick finished the game with three hits and scored twice. Alex Manner (Bellevue) and Kyle Fluharty (Willard) each had two hits.
On the mound, Dalton Jarvis (Bellevue) picked up the win. He pitched all eight innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. He struck out six and walked two.
