The only thing hotter than the hitting for the Sandusky American Legion Post 83 baseball team Sunday afternoon was the weather.

And even that was debatable.

Post 83 scored 35 runs on 28 hits in just 12 innings of play Sunday at Perkins High School, sweeping Avon Lake (13-1) and Willard (22-0) on the final day of its host ‘Nubbs’ Shootout.

Post 83 improved to 9-4 with the wins, and finished the tournament with a 4-1 mark.

In the win over Avon Lake, Seth Bryant (Perkins) hit a pair of two-run singles and finished with four hits.

On the mound, Kyle Fluharty (Willard) was dominant. He threw all seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. He struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter.

In the win over Willard in five innings, the entire lineup contributed and Post 83 got another solid effort on the mound.

Bryant added three more hits, including a triple, while driving in two and scoring three times.

Fluharty was just as big with the bat as he was on the mound in the opener, finishing with three hits, including a triple and a home run with three RBIs.

Logan Shullick (Norwalk) finished with a pair of hits, including a home run, with four RBIs and four runs scored.
