The Sandusky American Legion Post 83 baseball team broke out the bats with so much force Thursday at Donges Field that they even broke one of the actual bats themselves.

Kyle Fluharty (WIllard) snapped an aluminum Easton in half just above the handle on an RBI fielder’s choice in the second inning and by then, the score already was 17-0 in favor of Post 83 over Ashland’s Post 88.

Sandusky (17-5) hit for the cycle in a span of just five batters in the first inning, eventually scoring a season high in runs via a 27-0 shutout of Ashland.

Leadoff hitter Mike Drake (Sandusky 2011) finished his day 5 for 7 with three runs and two RBIs as one-third of the 1-2-3 portion of the order that finished 12 for 19 with 11 runs and seven RBIs.

But he wasn’ the lone cog in the attack.
