It’s going to be a long way back at the Ohio American Legion state tournament for the Sandusky Post 83 baseball team.
Leading 2-1 over Pickerington (49-3) in the fifth inning, Sandusky (36-14) allowed five unearned runs in the fifth and seventh innings of a 6-3 loss Monday morning at Fisher Catholic High School in Lancaster.
With the loss, Sandusky must win two games each today and Wednesday, then force two championship games in the winner’s bracket final if it is to come home with a third state title in five seasons.
In Monday's action, Kyle Fluharty (Willard) hit a solo home run for Post 83.
He was also the tough-luck loser, allowing two earned runs on five hits in seven innings.
Offensively, Evan Laser (Perkins 2011) added two singles for Sandusky. Nick Butler (Huron) contributed a pair of RBIs.
