PERKINS TOWNSHIP — The Norwalk wrestling team returned to the mats for the first time since competing in the Edison Invitational Dec. 4.
“The kids were a little rusty, but they worked their way through it,’’ Truckers coach Danny Helton said.
Norwalk ended with two duals wins, beating Perkins 43-23 and Fremont Ross 53-17.
Going 2-0 for the Truckers were Jake Montana 125 pounds, Tyler Sparks 130, Nick Davis 145, Alex Doughty 152, Braden Hoover 171, Ahmad Silmi 171, Lance Leto 215 and Ian Ramos 285.
Jake Alexander at 189, Jacob Kluding 112 and Kyle Lang 119 all posted 1-1 marks.
“Our upper weights did a really nice job of grabbing the momentum with a couple of big wins and pins,’’ Norwalk coach Danny Helton said. “I thought Braden Hoover and Ahmad Silmi really helped us out with some key wins to get us started.
“Jake Montana stepped up and grabbed the momentum back in our favor with a big pin,’’ the coach added. “Alex Doughty looked good in both matches. He was able to chain some moves together to beat two quality opponents.”
Norwalk is scheduled to compete in the Kenston Invitational Monday and Tuesday.
