Despite all its flair and theatrics, football is still a simple game.

St. Paul proved that theory true in the season opener Saturday night vs. St. Mary Central Catholic, running the ball 65 times for 428 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-12 win over the Panthers at Strobel Field.

When the Flyers did pass the ball, quarterback Matt Starcher was 3 of 4 for 55 yards and a touchdown, and a near-touchdown as a ball was stripped at the goal line and recovered in the end zone for the six points.

SMCC leads the all-time series 32-24-4 in 61 meetings, however, St. Paul has won 15 of the last 18 regular season meetings.
