The Sandusky swimmers did not earn any automatic bids to the state tournament from Saturday's swimming districts, but the Blue Streaks' state champion, Taylor Vargo, is poised for an at-large bid.
Vargo finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.88) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.85). Fremont Ross's Taylor Waggoner won the 200 free in 1:54.74, while Toledo Notre Dame junior Rachael Dzierzak took the 100 breaststroke, 1:04.39.
In 2010, Dzierzak finished second to Vargo in the 100 breast in the state finals, 1:04.61 to 1:04.83. With the win, Vargo became Sandusky's first girls state champion swimmer.
"The goal is to move on, and I think we accomplished that without sacrificing too much," Sandusky head coach Tommy Patterson said.
