Edison's Kyle Burns and coach Davy Hermes earned top honors from the Greater Mid-Ohio Wrestling Coaches Association for their successful 2010-11 season.
Burns, the Division III 145-pound state champion, was named wrestler of the year. In the state finals, he defeated Bedford St. Peter Chanel's Dan Orrill, the projected champion, with a last-second escape.
Hermes, in his third year at the helm for the Chargers, led Edison to a fourth-place finish in Division III following Chanel, Cuyahoga Valley CVCA and Monroeville. The Chargers were 19th in 2009 and 22nd in 2010.
Edison sent six wrestlers to the state tournament in Columbus including two state finalists and four placers. All six Chargers were named to the first or second all-GMOWCA team. Tyler Majoy (second place at 135), Jude Michel (seventh at 103) and Jordan Cole (eighth at 160) were also named to the first team. Cam Michel, a two-time state qualifier, and Zach Rutherford earned second-team honors.
Huron junior Nino Majoy, who took third place at heavyweight in Division III, made the first team, while teammate Matt King earned second-team honors.
St. Paul's Jesse and Mitchell Gross were named to the first and second teams, respectively. Western Reserve senior Tim Grys earned first-team recognition, while St. Mary Central Catholic's Kody Bellamy, seventh at 215, was named to the second team.
