Ashley LaFountain won her third SBC tennis singles title, Norwalk earned a three-game sweep of No. 1-ranked Mansfield Madison in volleyball, and St. Paul rans its win streak against South Central to 21 straight.
BOYS GOLF:
- NOL Tournament: Willard’s Hunter Wiers and Bellevue’s Justin Schoen both scored 75s on Saturday to share medalist honors at the Northern Ohio League Tournament at Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde. The Flashes had a bigger reason to celebrate, as the win gave them a share of the league crown. They can win it outright on Wednesday against Norwalk, which was third.
GIRLS GOLF:
- SBC Tournament: Perkins’ Maddy Mullins shot a 73, including a 33 on the front nine, leading the Pirates to their first outright Sandusky Bay Conference title since 2005. Perkins came out on top with a 366 for a 13-stroke win over Edison with 379 at Sawmill Creek. Mullins led second-place Rafaella Gioffre by eight strokes and cut the Sawmill conference tournament record by 13 strokes.
CROSS COUNTRY:
- Jonathan Albaugh won the boys blue race at the Bill Brown Classic at Ontario, leading New London to a team title, and Clyde’s Isaac Bouyack and Bellevue’s Dylan Farmbrough finished 10th and 11th in the boys red race at the Cardinal Stritch Invite to lead area runners.
TENNIS:
- SBC Tournament: Oak Harbor junior Ashley LaFountain capped off another Sandusky Bay Conference singles championship Saturday morning, while the Clyde doubles team of Lexi Weber and Amanda Cahill captured their first. Weber and Cahill beat Tiffany Colston and Katie Schroeder (Port Clinton) 6-2, 6-0 in the championship final. LaFountain beat Armelle DeRiso (St. Mary CC), the No. 2 seed, 6-0, 6-0 to complete her five-match run through the bracket without losing a game.
VOLLEYBALL
- Norwalk 3, Madison 0: Norwalk, ranked No. 4 in the Division II coaches poll, swept No. 1 Madison, 25-14, 25-23, 28-26. Entering the match, Norwalk had lost 12 straight to Madison in the regular season and tournament, including a five-game thriller in the district semifinals last season.
- Golden Spike Invite: Edison's Abbey Cox was named tournament MVP after finishing 50 of 58 hitting with 34 kills, eight blocks, 16 points and four aces as the Chargers won three matches by 2-0 scores.
