First, I just saw Jason's blog and the news of the passing of Michelle (Butler) Keegan is a very sad thing.

Michelle and her sister, Dana, were excellent Sandusky athletes and I've known both since those high school days. But she was (and Dana is) clearly much more than that. Being a wonderful mother and fine teacher seem to me to be a lot more important, particularly now.

You will be missed Michelle, and I hope your family and kids are able to overcome this tragedy.

Now, I've been meaning to write this blog to take a short look back at Week 1 of high school football, but I guess I'm a slacker and it's taken until now to actually do it.

First and foremost, I think I'm disappointed in the Sandusky High results. Not because they lost or looked bad doing it, but because I've had a chance to meet some of these players and I'm rooting for them and I'm really hoping for a Week 11 for the Blue streaks.

The biggest surprise from WeeK 1 had to be the way St. Paul executed in the first half against St. Mary CC. It was almost perfect.

Another surprise was how Perkins played against Bellevue. i think the Redmen are one of the top teams in the area and I think we will see them in the playoffs. But I really didn't know what to expect from the Pirates and was pleased to see they were competitive.

Biggest shame -- the Week 1 injuries to guys like Brian Ringholz.
