Yesterday morning I was squarely in the Charlie Frye must start at quarterback for the Browns camp, but I've changed my mind... sort of.
I'm ready to let rookie Brady Quinn start, IF the Browns can get something of value (a second-day draft pick in 2008 most likely) in return for Charlie. I'm not convinced Frye will take to being a back-up, which he eventually will be in Cleveland, so why not get something in return now when there is value?
The problem with Frye, and Derek Anderson for that matter, is they've been given a chance to take the job and let a rookie, who hasn't been in camp two weeks, outplay them.
The biggest concern with this plan is Quinn gets beat up like Tim Couch (or Frye for that matter). It's a calculated risk, I suppose, but one has to hope the Browns have spent enough money over the last two years on that offensive line that it will get its act together and protect a quarterback.
Quinn (or any quarterback in the system) will have the added protection of Jamal Lewis in the backfield. Lewis may be a shadow of what he was a couple of years ago when he was piling up record yardage against the Browns, but he's still better than anything we've got (or had).
So, if they can get something of value for Frye (and I've heard Minnesota, Kansas City and Atlanta) have all inquired about the availability of one of the Cleveland quarterbacks), I say do it, start Quinn and get on with the future once again.

said something to the effect that they didn't want to rush Quinn because once he was in there he would be their quarterback for the next 7-8 years. Hopefully Charlie can swallow his pride once that day comes that Quinn gets the start and we can have two quarterbacks who dreamed of playing for the Browns. Frye would still only be one snap away from being the starter and then Pender would be crying like a girl.11:17 AM

Danny,Danny,Danny, What have you been drinking? One preseason game with a bunch of hopefuls does NOT entitle Brady to be the next starting QB in the NFL. Granted, noone looks like Joe Montana in Browns camp at this point, but come on. Flash back to Tim Couch. Bring back any memories? Frye is the guy, now and hopefully many years to come. Brady looked good, poised etc., but look at the situation he was in. Let's see if he can do it with the #1's before we put him in the Hall of Fame.08:09 AM

Dan, I hope the Browns don't go down the same road with Quinn as the did with Couch. Quinn could develop into the franchise quarterback we need, but lets not lets give him the time and the line to do that.
