Now that we’ve had eight days to digest (or vomit if you’re an Ohio State fan) of what happened in a 38-24 BCS Championship loss to LSU, it’s time to reflect on the season.
After all 11-2 and winning the Big Ten and reaching the BCS Championship game for the second straight year isn’t that bad from a team predicted to finish third in the conference.
Here are some awards from the 2007 season:
Most Valuable Player: Without the running of Chris Wells and the guys up front giving him holes, the Buckeyes might not have even advanced to the BCS Championship Game. Wells set a sophomore rushing record with 1,609 yards, including 967 and nine touchdowns the last six games. Wells picked up 221 yards against Michigan State, 222 against Michigan and 146 against LSU.
Best Game: The Buckeyes went into a hostile Happy Valley and put together probably their most solid effort of the season against a good, but not great Penn State team. OSU gained 200 yards rushing and 253 passing in a 37-17 win, while limiting the Nittany Lions to 263 total.
Worst game: You don’t have to think very long on this one.
Biggest disappointment: Seven penalties, including five personal fouls, three turnovers (two interceptions and one fumble), missed tackles, a dropped touchdown pass and a blocked field goal from OSU in the BCS Championship Game. Also, quarterback Todd Boeckman had 14 interceptions on the season, including three in a loss to Illinois. Three picks didn’t hurt against Purdue, as didn’t two against Akron. And with all the success OSU had had in its history, the loss dropped them to 18-21 in bowl games and 0-9 against SEC teams in bowl games.
Best Freshman: Cameron Heyward was thrust into a starting role when Lawrence Wilson and Robert Rose went down with injuries. Heyward delivered with 33 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Running back Brandon Saine also showed some promise with 267 yards rushing and 12 catches, including three in the BCS National Championship game, despite missing two games.
Most Improved: Wide receivers Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline stepped in for Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez and were solid. Robiskie upped his totals from 29 catches for 383 yards and five touchdowns to a team-leading 55 receptions for 935 yards and 11 TDs. Hartline finished second on the team, hauling 52 catches for 694 yards and six scores. He had 17 catches for 256 yards and two TDs in 2006.
Biggest losses: Offensive lineman Kirk Barton for his play on the field and quotes afterward. Defensive end Vernon Gholston for 37 tackles, including 15.5 tackles for loss and 14 sacks.
Best Newcomer: Defensive back Kurt Coleman collected nine tackles in 2006, but earned a starting spot at strong safety this season and recorded 64 tackles (good for third on the team), including 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and four pass breakups.
That’s it for the 2007 season. Enjoy the rest of the winter and remember spring training starts next month.

another solid year for the Bucks. Parity is now nationwide and the days of the "same old team" winning every year is a thing if the past. Just making the BCS bowl is a great accomplishment03:11 PM

With a very disappointing end to the season for buckeye fans across the nation i want everyone to remember one thing, we will be better next year then this year. We are losing Gholston and that is really it. This is going to be a team that has been to two national titles and come up short in both. The only problem is i don't see us getting in with a 1 loss season.
