The common theme Sunday night from each coach across the Sandusky Bay Conference was welcoming Lyle Falknor, and having a few good-humored jokes at the expense of Troy Roth.
Falknor, who coached at Bellevue for 21 seasons before taking over as head coach at SMCC, is no stranger to the SBC, playing teams in various scrimmages, tournaments, etc, etc. And Roth returns to Margaretta's bench after a three-year hiatus.
Falknor was the last to speak, and when he took the podium wearing a gold Panther basketball coaching jacket had only kind words to his future opponents about the evening's atmosphere.
"This is awesome," he said, adding he'd never experienced anything like Sunday at the Catawba Island Club when he was in the NOL. "(The SBC) is something I'm looking forward to participating in."
Perkins coach Scott McVeigh said the addition of Falknor and Roth to the coaching circle  "does nothing but add to the league. We need to become better coaches now."
And when Clyde coach Ryan Carter spoke, he shared his excitement with the room about facing Falknor twice a year, before adding his coaches reminded him Falknor had his number. "There's two losses each year I can count on."
Oak Harbor coach Don Christie may have gotten the best jab at Roth.
"I'm just glad there's someone in the league shorter than I am, so I can post Troy up now," he said.
