Shayne Burrows should be given the coach of the year award for what he accomplished this year coaching 8th grade basketball. Congrats to the team for winning the SBC 39-31 over Port Clinton. The team has 4 players if they work hard this summer will move to at least jv. next year. Very talented group of kids. I would like to see this team play together as freshmen and work they way to varsity by their sophmore year.

4 is kind of alot of players to move up. maybe eventually there will be four up on jv but i dont think right away. theyre a great team. it should be fun to watch their progression.

I agree one could play jv, turner, but the rest couldn't get by the team of frosh ahead of them, early this season frosh scrimmaged them with four fresh and smoked em

Brett The Hitma...

I've seen these guys play and they do have 2-4 players i think worthy of getting time on the jv scene. It is a big jump though from 8th to 9th then from freshmen ball to playing jv. Staying freshmen-senior year is key to getting perkins bball program really thriving, they have a great future if the dedication stays their like it is now. I think what is really great is the 7th grade bball team also won the title. Both these classes got some hoopsters. One of my cousins from the 7th grade team says he wanted a peice of the 8th graders. I like the heads on these young kids, COMPETITIVE!

Wheels, We actually agree on something refering the Burrows, Lightning must have struck the same spot twice.

like i said before turner only could hang with frosh ahead of them, the rest are good ballers but never gonna move ahead of guys like dees, haerr, hohler, laser, balduff, howard, and even a few others

Disagree:
Ebert will step in and take your big man spot next year. He will be the answer to what Varsity needs now. It might not happen until a couple years from now but by his soph. year he will be playing a little varsity. This young man has developed alot within the last year, and will only get better. Take a good look at your big man, who do you have? Howard to too short, Balduff hasn't grown since the 8th. grade. Ebert is what six-three right now and hasn't hit the high school yet, plus he's getting stronger. Ebert will compliment the junior class well when their seniors and he's a soph. Keep an eye on Tony, and Jordan also. I'm not taking anything away from the frosh, by winning the championship, but out of the three titles 7th. 8th. and 9th. grade, the 9th. grade title was a bit watered down. You guys did not play Clyde, PC, SMCC, Edison, Margaretta, best players, you should have won the title this year. I've seen 8th. grade teams that could have beaten some of the 9th. grade team you guys played. Keep working hard next year is a whole new ball game, the cream will rise above the crop. Two out of the 5 starting spots are gone next year for you guys, and 2 more will be on the jv roster. All 4 of the boys are on an aau team this year, what are you guys doing to off set their mind frame of being hungery next year when they hit the high school? Plus their hitting the weights. If I were you I would quit talking and start finding a team to play with this summer, those boys are hungry. Two of the boys will be dunking the ball next year, I'm telling you that 8th. grade team has talent look out, but the overall goal is to have all the boys ready for when they hit the varsity seen. Congrats on your championship this year.

My thoughts

I saw every game the freshmen boys played this season--I do not have a kid on the team--and I observed a team that played much better than the same group of kids did in seventh grade when my son was on their team (pretty easy for Perkins people to figure out who I am from those clues). I only saw this group of kids play twice in eighth grade as I was usually attending my daughters eighth grade games. They improved a lot this year and I attribute that to better coaching and some maturity on their part. You are correct that the other schools didn't present their best players and I agree that they should have won the title because of this fact. I did not see the current eighth graders play so I really can't comment but I will say that the Ebert kid has the size and I walked past Xavier at the varsity game Friday and was amazed how much taller he is. I am wondering who you think will be dunking next year---Ebert and ?? Apparently there is talent in the pipeline and I agree that any freshmen player who wants to get better should be looking for an AAU team today.

There's so many birdmans on here I don't know who I'm talking to. Theres birdman, birdman 925, birdman with lil wayne. (LOL) It will be nice to see all these kids grow together and dominate in the future.

as far as freshman go bermudez is playing aau ball and a few others are going to as well it's nice to see the talent coming up we should be strong for the future, and your right the freshmans best competitors moved up to varsity at pc, marg, and jv at edison, clyde and oh, that says alot for teams they played during their middle school years, wonder if anyone the current 7th and 8th grade teams play will move up to jv or vars when they get in 9th, I doubt it, all the games I attended were walks in the park. but I'm glad OUR pirates will be deep with talent for the future. good luck to all pirates on the diamond this summer oh and one more thing if height is the only measure of a good baller and makes a team, how did perkins or anyone else for that matter ever beat norwalk with a 7 footer???? Just wondering............

Huron has a player that will move up to jv, pc has a couple that will move up to jv, margaretta has one that will move up, clyde has a couple that will move up, and perkins will have a couple that will move up. Not sure what your saying, but if your saying the 7th, and 8th. grade dominated because the talent wasn't there from the other team, well I guess if you say so. No one said anything that size was a requirement, you guys just don't have any. The Bermudez kis did he even get off the bench this year? Good size and should be playing AAU. I hope you can stroke the rock, handle the pill, can go one on one defending your man, if not maybe you should spend less time on here and start working on your game. Oh one more thing can any eighth grader take your job? Just wondering.

perkinstown

xavier will play jv with current frosh but none of others even come close, they will after some work be ready and hopefully will learn in aau ball. But just cuz u play aau doesn't mean anything. my son played travel baseball for years and last two years played ball downtown at amvets, teams down there would hang with any travel team. Same for basketball, for some real competition take your sons down to scott may park. 5 or 6 of frosh play there all the time, kids they play there would spank most aau teams. Seriuosly a good place to learn aggresive basketball and handling skills. The saying there is "no autopsy, no foul", if any of your kids want to, just get ahold of Haerr, hohler , balduff, laser, howard they go there often. With the soph, frosh, 7 and 8th grade kids perkins should have some great years of basketball ahead of us. Look forward to watching them play together and develop with you guys. GO PIRATES!!!!!

My thoughts

At Perkins?

perkinstown

at perkins

HuronTiger101

Who does Huron have moving up to JV???

perkinstown

wondered how pirate 8th are in AAU,also did they talk to head coach's? my understanding is they are not fully behind AAU because quality of coach's sometimes makes kids worst than better i.e...........cocky, lazy, poor fundamentals, just bad coaching

Crazy in here

Huron 8th grade basketball will win the championship this year, ive seen them play there a lot better than Perkins!
