i received an alert about an obscene post the other day, which led to the deletion of a bunch of personal attack posts. It also left me wondering if some of you think it's funny to be hurtful and obscene, or you just get really brave when you don't have to attach your names to the posts.
in either case, it's not fun and is hurtful and unnecessary.
i was bumping around on the canton repository website and found these ground rules for posting, which i think makes a lot of sense so i want to nicely ask all of you to follow:
1. Keep it clean.
2. Stay on topic.
3. Be honest and accurate.
4. Don't threaten anyone. It's against the law and bad manners.
5. No personal attacks. Don't bash anyone based on their race, creed, heritage, or orientation.
6. Don't say anything here you wouldn't say in front of your mother at the dinner table.
7. Email us at
scoreboard@sanduskyregister.com when you spot a rule violation. (but please don't report comments just because you disagree.)
i would appreciate it if we could please put these common sense ground rules to use on fandy.com. and if not, i would respectfully ask anyone considering an obscene or attack post to take that garbage somewhere else.

Thank you, Dan. Real sports fans can have a civil debate while trying to prove their point with facts, instead of personal attacks.AMEN

Dan, I stopped posting on here for the same reasons you mention. I stopped subscription to the Register b/c of their website that allows commentary to harmfully hurt people who they don't know or have no idea about the subject. After going on deaf ears with the publisher, I figured its best not to support something that tends to allow this to linger on... Soon as the story about the cheerleading advisor came out and hit front page, I had enough... No matter how that turns out it was offensive to allow that type of blatter to get posted. Fandy can be a good thing, but if some people think this is a joke or think its cool to rip apart others, then its time to scrap it and move forward... Hoping people use the internet privileges to great opportunities such as fandy and make it something to be proud of... But for many its been nothing but bird cage material to see what some people will post..respect

I believe respect is the basic pattern behind nasty, hurtful comments. If you don't respect yourself, then you will not respect anyone else. Unfortunately, respect starts at day 1. If you aren't shown respect, you can't learn or give respect. I used to like reading about all the sports that my grandsons have been in. I quit reading Fandy last year, but thought that Norwalk and Sandusky would listen to their readers about all of the negitive things they allow on this site. I just started again, hoping that they would clean this up. I guess they didn't and they must not care. I know about "Free speech". But when it destroys or hurts, it is no longer free. Guess I am no longer going to be here.Sportsvideo is 100% Correct!

SV knows what he's talking about. This site is reckless at best for allowing this type of commentary to continue. I like to talk area sports with all members, but it has gotten out of hand in many cases. I understand it's a free forum and I can just change the channel if I don't like the show, but the whole site is pretty weak from a content standpoint. The Northern Ohio Sports Forum or JJ Huddle has much better sports information.Perhaps moderators are needed

I think this site can be self policed if we all use the "Golden Rule" or go by the old saying "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all..." (or words to that effect). I love to talk about all the high school sports in our area, especially the ones my kids (and kids from my community) are involved with. This area is sports crazy, so sometimes the topics can get heated rather quickly. There are plenty of excellent posters that want to talk up there hometown athletes, and others who just want to spew venom. I don't mind a little good natured bantering from time to time, but when peoples feelings get hurt or personal lives are made public, that's when we need to draw the line. Let's all be better guests of this forum...insanity

This blog is such a big asset to the sports community in the area that to abuse it is like cutting off ones nose to spite the face.Things Getting Out of Control Again...

I think things are getting out of control yet again. People making up multiple names as other people and bashing on other schools/athletes. Something needs to be done.
