Bellevue grad, B-W receiver Matt Lepley is First-Team Alll-OAC

Bellevue High School graduate and Baldwin-Wallace College senior wide receiver Matt Lepley has been selected as a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference player. He is one of five Yellow Jackets selected to the All-OAC squad for the 5-5 overall Yellow Jackets.

Lepley, a 2006 second-team All-OAC selection, led the Yellow Jackets in receptions (69) and receiving yards (666) and tied for the team-lead with four receiving touchdowns. His 69 receptions broke the school single-season mark of 64 set in 1993 by Lance Yandell.

His 6.90 receptions per game also led the OAC. For his career, Lepley finished with 148 receptions for 1,480 yards and 12 TD.

As a punt return specialist, Lepley returned 49 punts for 477 yards and a 9.9-yard average. He also ran back four kickoff for a 19.8-yard average and made two tackles and broke up two passes as a defensive back in passing situations.

"Matt had an outstanding senior season and one of the best careers by a receiver in B-W football history," said seventh-year head coach John Snell.

"Matt has been a key wideout and punt return specialist for us for the past four years. In addition, he was used as a "nickel" back on defense in key situations. It just goes to show what a great all-around athlete he was for us. We definitely will miss him and his talent and leadership."

 

- Heidelberg junior defensive tackle Matt Grieves (Huron) was tabbed a member of the second-team defense, while senior wide receiver Lucas Bauer (Huron) was an honorable mention honoree.

 

BASKETBALL

- Florida State freshmen center Cierra Bravard (Perkins) scored 11 points in Saturdays 80-74 loss to Valparaiso and Friday's 85-50 win over Murray State.

Bravard has started al seven games so far for the Seminoles and is second on the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg.

- Bucknell freshman Trisha Krewson (Perkins) has 20 points off the bench in five games.

- Freshman Mariah Strayer (Bellevue) went 1-for-2 from the floor for Baldwin- Wallace in its 60-53 win over Washington and Jefferson on Saturday.

Strayer also pulled down four rebounds in 24 minutes.

 

- Junior guard Jimmy Langhurst (Willard) recorded back-to-back double-digit games for Robert Morris when he scored 13 points in a 74-72 win over Youngstown State on Nov. 25 and 17 points in a 70-62 win over Iona on Saturday.

Langhurst is averaging 10.3 points per game and is shooting 41.7 percent from behind the three-point line.

 

SOCCER

- Junior goalkeeper Richard Ott (Norwalk) had three saves for Ohio Weslyan University in its Division II sectional semifinal loss to Trinity.

Ott played in 19 games, allowed 18 goals with eight shutouts and totaled 59 saves for the Bishops.
