Tim Heffernan resigned last month as football coach at Danbury after three seasons. Heffernan had snapped a streak of four straight years with a different head coach. Offensive coordinator Bryan Dudash is expected to become the fifth coach since 2006 pending Board of Education approval soon.

Heffernan finished 5-24 in his three seasons guiding the Lakers. Danbury started the season 3-1 in 2011 before losing the final six games to finish 3-7.

"We accomplished some great things this year," Heffernan said. "But I just got married and need to spend time with my wife and new family. I'm still going to teach and be an assistant coach at Danbury, I just won't be the head guy."

Heffernan knew it was time to step away when his 38-year old wife Jennifer had a stroke in September, shortly after the Lakers started off 3-1.

Led by Lucas Kennedy at quarterback and Cory Schenk at receiver, the Lakers broke offensive records that had stood for more than 45 years at the school. A 2-0 start to the season was the best in 11 years while the 3-1 start equaled the best start in school history.

Through four weeks, Danbury was also ranked No. 1 in the Division VI Region 22 computer rankings, which is also a first.
