By TyroneLILmansdad (Freshman) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 13:29
3:24 looks like a Div. 1 highschool time and better than most!!! Lookout OHIO! Also lookout for Danbury..if everything clicks....placing high at states will be a given.

i dont mean to dis, but D1
By birdman (Varsity) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 18:53
i dont mean to dis, but D1 times are looking like 3:17, Glenville, Trotwood, and a few others i know have put done some sick times so far, D1 is far and above better then D2 and D3, though sometimes we have some few people who can contend and take a D1 title here and there.

Trotwood and Glenville cheat with open enrollment
By DuckOfDeath (Junior Varsity) on Sun, 05/18/2008 - 09:09
Shaw is a great sprinter, best in the state, but he lives in freakin Centerville and is in the middle of an OHSAA investigation, Glenville recruits from the entire Cleveland metro area. A little unfair to compare Clyde to them. I can assure you that Clyde's 4X400 are all born and raised in little old Clyde. Trotwood is actually more ridiculous with the recruiting as 7 out of 8 of their D1 football kids from last year were recruited as juniors from other Dayton area school districts. imagine how good Perkins would be if they recruited Clyde's sprinters and Lehrer and Thorne from Huron.

it is really unfair
By birdman (Varsity) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 19:09
it is really unfair sometimes, i mean i remember when tedd ginn was a senior and they ran like a 3:13-14 something like that, just plain nasty i mean nasty, my freshmen year at a indoor meet i ran the 4x200 against glenville and i had the pleasure to runn against jemario oneal, lets just say he was 40m ahead of me when he got the baton and was a good 80m in front of me when he handed it off and i ran like a 22.7split i was embarrased to say the least :(

By brownsfan4life (Junior Varsity) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 19:18
sorry guys, but a 3:24 4x400 is AVERAGE at best, and MOST years won't even make it outta regionals......it's a pretty decent time, but nnothin special....c'mon , u act like u've already won state and i'll bet money u don't even get there without at least a 3:22 or better......act like u been there before.

They have a shot at placing at State
By DuckOfDeath (Junior Varsity) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 20:08
3:24 would have placed 5th at last years State meet. That's assuming the Clyde kids can keep focused and get through Districts and Regionals. Getting there is going to be no walk in the park and their times are going to have to drop progressively per meet.

4x400 Projection
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 20:28
I'm totally impressed with Clyde's times right now. You'll see some other teams start to drop in the next 2 weeks, but if Clyde keeps their focus, they'll have a great shot at sub 3:20 and a great spot on the podium. I hope the Huron Tigers can draft right behind the Clyde guys all the way down to regionals and beyond...

um 3:24 is way above average for d2....Congrats to Clyde, that's a sweet time for this part of the season (as in we're not even in districts or regionals yet)....I agree with TigerDad, Huron's got a couple more seconds to shave but it would be nice to see two SBC teams running 'the man's race' down at the Jesse O.

The Wild Card in the 4x400
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 20:56
Call me crazy, but Port Clinton has 4 great athletes on their 4x400 squad. Wightman, Cox, Harris and Tigner are all very athletic and can go the distance in this race. Look for the Redskin quartet to break out at the SBC Meet on Saturday and spice things up a little.

I agree it would be Great to have both Clyde and Huron push each other all the way down to State and hopefully the finals Btw 3:24 is deffintly above average for anytime of the year as duck said it would have placed 5th for d2 last year mostley as tiger dad has said clyde hasnt peaked yet there on pace to do some special things Is port Clinton d3? Because if they are then we could have 3 sbc teams make some noise at regionals

what have huron's splits
By Clyde_Flier 10 (Freshman) on Mon, 05/12/2008 - 23:08
what have huron's splits been? i know there just a couple paces behind clyde. but what are there best splits and who can still trim alittle time? and also with clyde you have to remember that they are yet to be pushed. they still won at fremont by 30 meters so im thinking with a little bit more competition that time could fall a little bit more around 3:20-22's.

3:24 is a good time who ever
By birdman (Varsity) on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 04:22
3:24 is a good time who ever said it wasn't your mistaken, now i know times from past area teams most notorious shelby with those super fast twins, huron of 2005, um there are some others though. When you talk about going sub 3:20 you are talking about 3 kids going 50 and better, its takes a special talent to be able to do that, to me its comes down if you have the heart to push your self when your brain says your body has had enough. I see clyde getting down to sub 3:20 but not till regional or state, eastwood is not as great so far as advertised in the 4x4. Huron can diffinetly be right behind the fliers all the way to state, not dissing once again but if 3:24 gets u fifth at state it tells u something about the competition that year.

the past four years at d2
By sprinTandDie (Freshman) on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 13:23
the past four years at d2 state, a 3:28 would place you between 3rd and 8th.......Huron's 2,3,4 runners are yet to be truly pushed considering that Thorne kid is running lead-off...i believe the kid running 2nd is the weakest right now looking to shave off a second or two. The anchor is a freshmen who's got potential to run around a 51. If i had to guess i'd say the quartet peaks at around 3:24 or 3:25

Huron's 4x400
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 15:49
Sprint and die, I think your assessment is just about 100% on the Huron 4x400. We have 3 of the 4 runners back from the last years squad that peaked at regional finals with a 3:28.

PC 4x400
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 19:41
PC's 4x400 takes down Huron's 4x400 in tonights dual meet. PC goes 3:30, Huron goes 3:32. Wightman runs a nice anchor and makes up 20 meters at the end. Nice effort from the Skins'.

By DuckOfDeath (Junior Varsity) on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 20:20
I have seen PC and Huron's 4X400 in action and I would consider this a mild upset. Is Huron sandbagging for the SBC meet?

4 x 4
By trackfan (Freshman) on Wed, 05/14/2008 - 15:39
Does anyone know what Edison's time was in 2002 when they won the D2 state title in the 4 x 4? I think it was around 3:22 but I am not sure. There has been alot of talk about boys' track - what teams will compete for the SBC title on the girls side? I say it will be a very tight meet between Perkins, Edison, Clyde, and Oak Harbor. Huron will be in there as well. I think the girls conference chase will be closer than the boys - coming down to the final events.

Sprint and Die
By Clyde_Flier 10 (Freshman) on Wed, 05/14/2008 - 16:17
Huron's 2,3,4 runners have been pushed already in the year tho. at a dual with clyde which was early in the season so huron has gotten faster but im just saying that they have been pushed already b/c clyde beat them by a good amount that day. and that was the day when they were saving everybody, like thorne not running the open 400 and lereh not running the 100.

Huron 4x400
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 06:36
Clyde Flier 10, I can assure you that no one was being saved for anything that day against Clyde. Lehrer tried out the outdoor 200 for the first time since Jr. High, and also long jumped, led off the 4x100 and ran in the 4x400. That's a full nights work in anyone's book. Thorne was also trying out the 200 but DQ'd on a false start, but because the 200 and 400 are pretty close together, the Coach decided to take him off the open 400 for that meet. Huron doesn't have enough depth to "save" anyone, or take the night off. People being banged up, getting times in new events or whatever caused the line-up change. Huron's 4x400 has run better at the Invites/Relays than in the duals all season. I'm sure that's the case with about every team.

If i recall that duel meet correctly, Huron was missing 1 or 2 of their main 4x4 guys that night. Members of Huron's main 4x4 have been pushed at times, the other night at port clinton shows that.. but the relay has yet to be pushed when the 4 main guys are running it or when everyone's been healthy with 'fresh' legs.

The bottom line
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Thu, 05/15/2008 - 18:05
The bottom line is Clyde has excellent depth in the sprint department. Their guys are having nice time drops, running well as a team and putting out some excellent numbers. Clyde has one of the top 4x400 crews in the state regardless of division. Clyde is so strong right now, that everyone including PC, Huron, Eastwood, Norwalk, Perkins, Genoa, etc. will be chasing Clyde for the final 3 spots in the district, regardless of who is in the line-up. For selfish reasons mentioned earlier, I hope the Huron Tigers can draft behind the Fliers and pick up a top 4 spot in the district and move on to run at regionals and beyond. The common thread that links all 16,17 & 18 years old boys, is that they are unpredictable. They can run great 3 meets in a row, then at the 4th meet look like they forgot how to run. Kids peak at different times and some kids respond better to the pressure of the bigger meets than others. That's what makes high school track such a great sport for the fans, and frustrating for the coaches...Anything can happen. Best of luck to all.

i talked to a couple of the huron runners tho and they told me that they were trying to mess with our heads a little that meet, and keeping there guys somewhat fresh for the 4x4. but i agree with TIGER DAD, anything can happen. pressure can mess with people so they run bad, or it can bring out a different animal in somebody.

Clyde Flier 10, Good post. "pressure can mess with people so they run bad, or it can bring out a different animal in somebody". I totally agree with you. Some guys flip out and false start due to nerves and other guys are loose as a goose... Tiger Dad's Helpful Hint to all Runners and Throwers: Make sure that your uniform complies 100% with OHSAA and League rules. I'm suprised at how many guys and gals don't wear the approved uniform and get DQ'd on the basis of improper gear. I saw it first hand last year at the SBC's with an Edison long jumper. If you don't know if your gear is compliant, ask your coach.

SBC's
By Tiger Dad (Junior Varsity) on Sat, 05/17/2008 - 18:17
After a rough start, it turned out to be a good day of racing. I'll have more comments later (on to the graduation circuit) about the overall meet. Kade Kramer was the real deal today and ran some great sprints and relays and was named MVP. Leslie turned in a nice perormance and just used this meet as a training day to help his team and get ready for state. Some new records set and some good action all the way around. A sincere thanks to Mrs. Leslie (Corey's Mom) for making parking in Port Clinton such a pleasure...You went above and beyond to help Tiger Dad and family. Many special thanks from Tigertown. Tiger Dad also talked to Kade Kramer's parents today. They are nice folks from Clyde, and their son had an extra special day. Best of luck next week. Missing in Action: Nate Caudil - Big loss in the long jump pit and the sprints. Get well soon. Dylan Keller - Tweaked his "hammy" last week and took today off to get some rest. Would have been a real factor in the 200/400 and the sprint relays. Get well soon, but most of the sprinters hope you take another week off...LOL Brady Gelvin - Would have made the finals in the 100 and 200, and been near the top of the long jump board.

great comments TIGER DAD was a great meet there were some key players missing today, but I think the FLIER sprinters showed up today (as did everyone else) , but I got to give Kade Kramer the props what a meet for a 10th grader can't wait for more to come I think that with better competition the boyz are pushed harder which means the times will get better the SBC has some great sprinters this year Keller, Leher, Kramer, Garcia, and Smith represent the SBC well GOOD LUCK TO ALL
