i had this notion to list who i think will win sbc titles this fall, but as i'm writing this i'm not completely sure the idea is all that good. but i'll throw caution to the the wind and give it a go — midway through july. i think i'll go out on a limb and say clyde will win football and port clinton in girls tennis. huron will make things interesting for the fliers, and edison will finish third, but what happens in perkins and oak harbor may be the most interesting thing to watch. as for tennis, the league should probably just rename the trophy in honor of the lady redskins and be done with it. huron is going to be awfully tough (still) in volleyball, despite the graduation of sara sage and susie isphording, but if the lady tigers falter even a little, edison will be there to pick up the crown. and of course, margaretta and clyde are going to be in the hunt as usual. now here's where it gets tricky ... i know st. mary cc still has plenty of talent in both boys cross country and golf, and should be in contention, probably with edison in both, although its hard to count out perkins in either. i have no clue about girls cross country (sorry), but edison and perkins will duke it out again in girls golf. that leaves soccer where the lady pirates are the standard. i've been typing in schedule — a lovely exercise — and it seems like if there's not enough girls teams for a full league schedule, its going to happen soon. huron, perkins and port clinton always seem to be fighting over the boys title. huron won last year and perkins the year before, so maybe it's the redskins' turn. for good or ill, on july 15, that's what i'm thinking (guessing). just don't hold me to it.
