Sandusky High School grad earns PSAC accolade

California University of Pennsylvania freshman forward Kelsey Williams, a Sandusky grad, was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Freshman of the Week on Dec. 9.
Williams helped lead the Vulcans to a 2-0 record as Cal University posted wins over Salem International University and Wheeling Jesuit University. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 13.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, shooting 56.3 percent (9 of 16) from the field.
Williams scored a season-high 15 points in the win over Salem International. On Dec. 6, Williams scored 11 points and led the Vulcans with seven rebounds (three offensive).
For the season, Williams is second on the team with both 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He also is shooting 52.9 percent (18-of-34) from the floor and has collected five steals.
Volleyball
n UCLA freshman Sara Sage (Huron) finished her first season in Los Angeles after the 14th-seeded Bruins fell to No. 3 Texas in the NCAA Regional semifinal on Dec. 12.
Sage, a three-time All-Ohioan and All-Sandusky Bay Conference pick, played in 26 matches and totaled 102 kills, 19 digs and 62 blocks for UCLA, which finished 22-11.
Football
n Cincinnati redshirt junior Jeff Linkenbach (Margaretta) started al 13 games at left tackle for the Bearcats (11-2), who won the Big East crown with a 6-1 conference record.
Cincinnati will face ACC champion -- and former Big East member -- Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl on New Year's Day in Miami.
Linkenbach has started 29 games in his career with the Bearcats, who are looking for their fourth straight bowl victory. The Orange Bowl will be televised on FOX at 8 p.m. Jan. 1.
