LEWISBURG, Pa.
Freshman guard Trisha Krewson (Perkins) was named the Patroit League Baden Rookie of the Week on Monday. Krewson set career highs in scoring and assists against Buffalo on Friday in her first career start. Krewson scored a career-high 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting and added four assists and five rebounds. Defensively, she had one block and one steal.
In her first season, Krewson, a second-team All-Ohioan, is averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.
On Monday, Krewson totaled five points, three rebounds and an assist against Howard. Buffalo is 7-5 overall.
- Freshman guard Mariah Strayer (Bellevue) and forward Catherine Spisak (St. Mary CC) each scored a season-high 10 points Saturday as Baldwin Wallace defeated Heidelberg, 91-41, in Tiffin.
Strayer made 4 of 6 from the floor and hit 2 of 2 at the foul line in 15 minutes, while Spisak connected on 5-for-8 shooting with four rebounds in 10 minutes.
In the Texas Challenge Tournament in San Antonio on Dec. 29, Strayer scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench in a 72-57 win over Trinity (Texas) University.
VOLLEYBALL
- Julia Butler (Huron) finshed her 2008 season with Mercyhurst College in Erie, Penn.
Butler played in 130 games and set a career high with 1,214 assists -- one shy of the school record set in 1993 -- and was second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in assists. Butler, who ranks third on the school's career list with 3,002, averaged 9.3 assists per set and posted 53 assists twice this season.
The team co-captain, Butler was fourth on the team with 272 digs and ranked second with 34 aces.
Mercyhurst was selected to play in the NCAA Division II tournament for the first time in school history.
