Perkins' Krewson named Patriot League Rookie of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.

Trisha Krewson (Perkins) was named the Patriot League Baden Rookie of the Week on Monday after scoring a career-high 18 points, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range, against Navy Saturday. It's the second time this season Krewson has won Rookie of the Week Honors -- the first coming on Jan. 5.

In one of her most productive games this season, Krewson hit her first four shots from behind the arc, including one in the first half that started Bucknell's rally. The 6-foot-0 guard hit a pair of triple midway through the first half to convert a 21-15 deficit into a 27-23 lead for Bucknell. The game marked the first time this season Krewson connected on more than one 3-pointer in a game.

Krewson also finished with seven rebounds against the Mids, tying the career-high she set at Lafeyette. She added two assists and finished 2-for-2 at the free throw line.

Krewson's previous high was 11 points on Jan. 2 against Buffalo, which helped her earn her first Patriot League Rookie of the Week award.

n Florida State's Cierra Bravard (Perkins) scored seven points in the Seminole 82-75 upset-win on Jan. 29 over No. 3 Duke in the ACC.

Bravard, the fourth-leading scorer for the 'Noles, followed with eight points in a 72-71 loss to Maryland on Feb. 2, three points in a 64-52 win over Boston College and nine points in Sunday's 75-59 win over Miami, Fla.

Bravard has started 15 of 25 games for Florida State (20-5, 8-1 ACC), ranked No. 14 in the AP Top 25. Entering the game against the Hurricanes, Bravard was sixth all-time in field goal percentage, sinking 87 of 152 shots for .572 -- good for second in the conference.

- University of Indianapolis guard Cayla Keegan (Margaretta) returned to the lineup on Jan. 4 after an injury and has played in eight games since.

Keegan, who started three games between Jan. 17-24, scored a season-high 13 points on Jan. 22 against Quincy, and has totaled 41 points on the year in 228 minutes of action.

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

- California University of Pennsylvania forward Kelsey Williams (Sandusky) earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference honors for the third time this season on Monday.

Williams led the team with 18.0 points, seven rebounds and two blocks per game against Slippery Rock University and No. 5 Gannon.

Against Slippery Rock, he scored a team and season-high 21 points after connecting on 9-for-14 from the foul line. He also collected eight rebounds -- six on the offensive end -- four blocks and two assists.

Against Gannon, he finished with 15 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes.

Williams averages 10.6 points per game on the season, shooting 84 of 160 (52.5 percent) from the floor, with 5.4 rebounds per game and is among the team leaders with 17 blocks.

Williams scored nine points and added six rebounds in a loss to rival Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Jan. 28

- Central State freshman guard Cole Prophet (Sandusky) scored 15 points in a 117-95 victory on Feb. 5 against Carver Bible College.

Prophet is third on the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game and has started all 22 games for Central State.

 

WRESTLING

- Freshman Michael Baxter (Perkins) posted a pin in 2:06 at 133 pounds in Mercyhurst's 33-7 victory Feb. 5 against Waynesburg, Pa.

 

SOFTBALL

- Sarah Haynes (St. Mary CC) was recently named assistant head softball coach at Tiffin University.

In her career for the Dragons, she is the schools' all-time leader with doubles and is in the top six for hits and RBI. Haynes, was a four-year letterwinner who batted .312 over 160 games with a .353 on-base percentage.

Haynes, who previously was Coach of the Year at Hopewell-Loudon, resides in Tiffin with her husband and son.
