Sitting inside the Margaretta pool with sophomore Sydney Craig, the lone state qualifer for the Polar Bears for Friday's D-2 swim prelims, a threw her a curveball and opted for the "rapid-fire-response-first-thing-that-comes-to-mind-questions" about random stuff.
Here's how she did.

Favorite event: 50 freestyle
Favorite subject: Math
iPod or Zune: iPod (white first generation nano with a pink case)
Last song listened to: Hot N Cold, by Katy Perry
What she'll do in Canton when she isn't swimming: Shopping

Craig's PR in the 50 freestyle is 25.24, set Saturday at the district meet.

Mike and Mike in the morning
SMCC swim coach Michele Gallagher and I were discussing how the days of three-sport athletes have almost vanished. What you have now are athlets who focus on their strongest sport and do that year-round. Then she shed light about her son, Michael, who will compete in four events over the weekend. He also was a state qualifier for cross country.
Then I remembered  two-time state qualifer Michael Mulvin, a junior at Perkins, swam in Canton a year ago and placed second at state on the 4x800 relay team with Michael Ahner, Nate Huntley and Cory Leslie in Columbus in June.
Two Michaels comepeting at state in two sports — a reaffirmation there are still some sucessful two-sport athletes.
