Western Reserve graduate and Kent State freshman pitcher Andrew Chafin didn't have to wait long to pick up his first collegiate win, as he picked up a relief victory in the Golden Flashes 9-6 extra innings win at UNC Greensboro Saturday.

Chafin pitched both the 10th and 11th innings to earn the win while striking out four of the seven batters faced and allowing no runs on no hits.

In the Golden Flashes season opening win, Perkins graduate Kyle Hallock picked four innings of relief without an earned run and picked up a save despite entering the game with a 10-1 lead of the eventual 18-2 rout.

If a pitcher pitches effectively for three or more innings, the official scorer then has the discretion of awarding a save, and did so to Hallock.

- For the fifth time this season, California University of Pennsylvania forward Kelsey Williams, a Sandusky graduate, was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Freshman of the Week.

Williams leads Cal U in scoring this season with 11.8 points per game, while also averaging 5.7 rebounds per game. He leads all PSAC freshmen with a .523 field-goal percentage (113-of-216).

Pelton, currently ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, is now 27-1 in his debut season with a team-leading nine pins, five major decisions, and one tech fall. He is currently on a 15-bout winning streak since suffering his only loss of the season on Jan. 10.

- Baldwin-Wallace College junior thrower Greg Patrick, a Western Reserve graduate, has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the B-W Greater Cleveland College Championship Meet Feb. 20.

- Perkins graduate Chris Skaggs finished second in the pole vault at the Capitol University Indoor Track Meet Feb. 20 for the Miami of Ohio track team.

Skaggs vaulted a 14-foot-6 effort in the event.

- Willard graduate Jimmy Langhurst continues to contribute effectively to the Robert Morris men's basketball team as they prepare for a possible run to the Division I NCAA tournament field.

Despite having a chance to clinch the Northeast Conference regular season title its past two games, which both resulted in losses, Robert Morris is 19-10 overall and 13-3 in the NEAC and will still be the top seed at the conference tournament with a win over St. Francis, Pa. tonight or against Mount St. Mary's Saturday. The winner of the conference tournament gets an automatic bid to the 65-team NCAA tournament.

Langhurst has started 25 of 29 games for the Colonials, averaging 9.8 points and 2.4 assists per game.
