BOYS BASKETBALLAvon 59, Vermilion 39: Cameron Kuhn scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Vermilion boys, who fell to West Shore Conference opponent Avon. The Sailors were just 11 of 33 from the field in the game.
WRESTLINGPerkins 44, Bellevue 27: Perkins needed its four win-by-forfeits to take down Bellevue in a Wednesday dual in Perkins Township. Bellevue won six of the 10 contested bouts, but the 24 free points were too much to overcome for the Redmen. Ryan Veliz, trailing 14-0 in the third period, scored a reversal and a pin (5:36) to win in the 126-pound varsity match. Damon Cheek defeated Bryon Logan in the 132-pound class, 6-0, and Matt Zenowicz edged Nathan Salmon, 11-9. Edison wins two at home quad: The Chargers lost just two contested bouts in a pair of team victories over Hillsdale and Tiffin Columbian Wednesday in Milan. Edison freshman Evan Cheek scored a key 4-1 victory at 106 over Columbian's Derik Kopp, a state qualifier a year ago for the Tornadoes. At 152, Kyle Burns scored a 9-3 decision against Columbian's Seth Williams, who was sixth in Division II at 145 in 2011.
