The Bellevue girls upended state-ranked Shelby Saturday afternoon, 62-48 to knot the Northern Ohio League girls basketball race.
The Lady Red, coming off a loss to Perkins Tuesday, jumped out to a 29-10 lead in the second quarter and a 38-19 advantage at the half. The Whippets (17-1, 8-1 NOL) climbed back within six points, 47-41, with 6:23 to play, but Bellevue (15-4, 8-1) held them off for the victory.
Shelby, undefeated before Saturday's contest, was fifth in the most recent Division II AP poll behind No. 4 Clyde, including one first-place vote.
