I actually tried to do this Sunday, but my computer wasn't having any of it, so this is Take 2.
Anyway, it's always encouraging to see the Browns win, even in meaningless preseason games, particularly against the Broncos. Denver always seems to be a contender, so it was good to see Cleveland hang on.
Having said that, two things are troubling.
First, the third preseason game is considered the dress rehearsal for the regular season for the starters, it would have been nice to see Charlie Frye at quarterback throughout the first half. But on the other side of the coin, it was a very positive sign that Frye, Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn all performed well. The Browns have had to choose between the lesser of two evils, talent-wise, for far too long, so having all three play well makes for a pleasant problem.
Second, the way the defense was torched for a touchdown at the end of the first half is cause for concern. The Browns are in their third year of the 3-4 under Romeo Crennel and Todd Grantham, and it still cannot stop the run or get pressure on the passer. It's time for the the defenders to step up and make plays, like they did at the end of the game to perserve the 17-16 win.
