This weekend’s state track and field, baseball and softball tournaments end another school year.
It’s hard to believe another one has come and gone. It’s also hard believe that next school year will be 2009-10. This decade is almost gone.
The Reflector area has had some great accomplishments so far this season.
Obviously, wrestling took center stage March 7 with five state champions, including Hunter Stieber, Logan Stieber, Cam Tessari and Chris Phillips winning all winning Division III crowns. It was Logan’s third and Hunter, Tessari and Phillips all captured their second. Recent South Central grad Nick Hamilton grabbed the 285-pound state title in Division III.
The Edison girls’ golf team took fifth in Division II at the state tournament.
The state cross country meet showed the Edison girls’ finish 15th in Division II, while New London senior Colby Asmus earned a top-20 placing in Division III.
The St. Paul football team reached the Division VI, Region 21 championship game, before falling to eventual state-runner Hopewell-Loudon.
The Plymouth boys’ basketball, New London softball and Edison baseball teams all made regional appearances.
Other schools and individuals made district appearances and individual regional performances.
But it’s not over yet. Track and field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium could provide more highlights.
Then, it’s summer and those that are graduating will be off for future endeavors, while those that are returning will be working on their skills in one, two or maybe even three sports in preparation for the next school year.
Then we get to start it all over again.
