TENNIS: St. Mary rolls to victory

St. Mary Central Catholic swept both doubles matches and took two of three in singles for a 4-1 win Wednesday at Edison in a Sandusky Bay Conference match.

St. Mary Central Catholic swept both doubles matches and took two of three in singles for a 4-1 win Wednesday at Edison in a Sandusky Bay Conference match.

Morgan Linden and Armelle DeRiso both won in singles. Each dropped just one game in their respective matches as Linden won, 6-1, 6-0, and DeRiso won, 6-0, 6-1.

Sarah Thomas earned Edison’s lone win in third singles, 6-4, 6-0.

The duo of Megan Murray and Maria Dorski won a close match against Edison’s Danielle Rasey and Mallory Kiley, 7-5, 6-2. Sarah May and Molly Doyle earned a 6-3, 6-3 win of their own.

Port Clinton 5, Perkins 0

At Port Clinton, the tennis courts looked more like the scene of a crime Wednesday, as a procession of police cruisers, fire trucks and ambulances greeted the Lady Redkins after their 5-0 win over Perkins.

The win gave Port Clinton a perfect 16-0 record, 11-0 in the Sandusky Bay Conference, and the outright SBC championship.

Chelsea Beck won 6-2, 6-1 in first singles, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win from Aubrey Gillman in second singles.
Rachael Szabo didn’t drop a game in third singles, beating Marie Henley 6-0, 6-0.

Jordan VanWinkle and Samantha Griffin did the same, winning 6-0, 6-0, in first doubles. Michelle Hablitzel and Haley DeLeon took care of second doubles, defeating Keli Daugherty and Lynze Daugherty, 6-2, 6-2.

After the Lady Redskins won, the police cruisers and fire trucks took the team on a victory lap around town, ending with a victory bell celebration at Port Clinton High School.

Oak Harbor 3, Clyde 2

At Clyde, The Lady Rockets improved to 11-5 overall and 8-3 in conference play with the win.

Ashley LaFountain dropped one game in a 6-0, 6-1, win in first singles. Julia Konieczny got a second singles win by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Clyde’s Caitlyn Nearhood was victorious in third singles, 6-4, 6-2.

In first doubles, Clyde’s Katie MacFarland and Sara Potts were winner, 6-2, 6-3. However, Oak Harbor’s Hannah Sigurdson and Emily Macko defeated Emily Stamm and Maria Gerber, 6-3, 6-4.

Clyde fell to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Lady Fliers play Thursday at home against Lexington.
Oak Harbor returns home to play St. Mary Central Catholic Monday.
