This and that from SBC girls hoops

• Before voting on a preseason favorite Sunday, league coaches set about the future – namely announcing whether or not they had enough players for freshmen teams.
Only four league teams — Clyde, Edison, Margaretta and Oak Harbor — will sport freshmen teams this year.
Some teams, like Perkins, have plenty of freshmen, but they're likely to get more time on the JV or varsity roster.
League powers in each of the past four years, the Pirates and Polar Bears are heavy on underclassmen.
• It's little surprise the Fliers got all eight first-place votes from the league. Voted to finish second a year ago, they return a load of talent — Kaylea Griffin, who should be the league's top post players with SMCC's Kathleen Phillips, and outside presence from Spencer Robles, Lindsay Smetzler, Lauren Meyer, and Kelsey Keegan.
Clyde even knocked off Margaretta in the regular season — the only loss in the SBC for the Bears on their way to a regional final appearance — but lost both matches to Perkins.
Heath will be key, and so will depth, which coach John Cahill said is a concern.
• Huron coach Ty Ray coordinates the event yearly, and after coaching in the MAL and SLL, Ray said the SBC preseason social is much more friendly among league coaches compared with his previous stops.
Ray said he didn't look forward to those meetings, where little was spoken among coaches who didn't like each other.
It's clear all eight coaches have solid camaraderie and maintain a passion to win.
