Taylor Emody made if official Thursday, signing his name and committing to play Division I baseball at Ohio University.

Emody will attend Ohio on a partial scholarship, which Edison baseball coach Sean Hoover said has the chance to increase.

Hoover also said Emody had offers from several other Ohio schools as well as an offer from Michigan State. Emody’s father graduated from Ohio U, which Hoover said might have factored in to his decision.

Toledo, Youngstown State and Kent State were other in-state schools that pursued Emody in the recruiting process.

Edison’s Stewart signs with Clarion

Emily Stewart also signed a letter of intent at Edison High School Thursday, committing to play Division II volleyball at Clarion University in Pennsylvania.

Hoover, who doubles as Edison’s volleyball coach, said Stewart visited a tryout near Pittsburgh and met Clarion’s volleyball coach. The two kept in contact and Stewart decided to sign with the Golden Eagles.

Hoover said Stewart was pursued by Edinborough as well, along with a few other schools.

Stewart was a third-team All-Ohioan in Division II and surpassed the 1,000 kill and 1,000 dig mark in her senior season. She also received first-team Sandusky Bay Conference honors for her senior season.
