Six of the returning coaches were welcoming of the two rookie coaches in the league — Oak Harbor's Rob Collier and Huron's Bobby James.
James has been in the league for 13 seasons, so most the other coaches had no trouble trading jabs with his either.
Just like a year ago, Port Clinton, which returns eight letterwinners, was the pick in both coaches and media polls.
With that formality out of the way, the rest of the voting shook out with a bit of a surprise.
Huron, which had four wins a year ago, was picked second in the coaches poll. Seemed like a bit of a stretch, but no ballot had them lower than fourth.
The same was true of Perkins, which graduated all five starters.
Defending champion Edison had mostly second- and third-place votes, and a fifth and sixth.

• Perkins coach Scott McVeigh told those in attendance that John Schlessman, a member of his coaching staff and the former head coach at Sandusky, was doing well after suffering a mild heart attack last week. Schlessman would have coached the freshmen at PHS, but will take the winter off, McVeigh said.

• Clyde coach Ryan Carter brought up an interesting point about the SBC, saying that in the last year with league's breaking up, schools moving around, etc,, it was "great that our league stays together."
