The Sandusky Blue Streaks used an aggressive full-court press to cause turnovers and get easy baskets on their way to a 71-35 victory over Ashland Monday at Sandusky High School.
The victory allows Sandusky to surpass it’s win total from a year ago in just eight games this season.
Sandusky led 19-9 after one quarter and outscored Ashland 25-5 in the second quarter to take a 44-14 lead at the half.
“We got on them early and built a 10-point lead after the first quarter,” said Sandusky coach Nic Venerucci. “The full court pressure helped us to cause turnovers and get a number of easy baskets, especially in the second quarter when we blew the game open.”
The Streaks used a balanced scoring attack to take control, led by Brianne Crowe, who had 17 points. Cara Croom had 16 points and Marisha Brown added 12 to help pace the Streaks (4-4).
“On offense, I just want us to move the ball around and get the best shot available,” said Venerucci.
Ashland, having lost nine seniors from last year’s team, was not able to significantly cut into the deficit in the second half.
“It’s nice to be 4-4 at this point in the season,” said Venerucci. “We had a tough season last year and Ashland actually beat us by 40 points when we last played.”
Despite Sandusky’s dominance, it wasn’t a perfect game for the Streaks. The Streaks only shot 12 of 26 from the foul line.
“We need to improve our free-throw shooting,” said Venerucci.

Nice to see both basketball programs turning the Page...speaking of Page, Jay you need to get more aggressive! Too much talent to be so conservative on the court.
